Using a Backup Security Key for Two-Factor Authentication:
Yes, it’s strongly recommended to register both your Primary and Backup Security Keys with any service that supports multiple keys.
When you enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on a website, app, or service using your Primary Key, you should also register your Backup Key either during the initial setup or afterward through the account’s security settings.
This ensures that:
If your Primary Key is lost, damaged, or unavailable, your Backup Key can be used to log in.
You avoid being locked out and don’t need to go through account recovery procedures.
🔒 Note:
You cannot duplicate the Primary Key directly due to security reasons.
The core FIDO2 mechanism is designed to prevent keys from being copied or cloned, ensuring maximum protection for your credentials.
Each key must be individually registered with each service you intend to use.
