Bitwarden Interference with FIDO2/Passkey Registration:
If you're experiencing issues where your FIDO2 security key seems to register "successfully" on a website but nothing is actually saved to the key, the cause may be interference from the Bitwarden browser extension.
Bitwarden supports passkey management and may attempt to handle passkey registration automatically. When this happens:
The passkey might be saved to Bitwarden instead of your physical security key.
You might not be prompted to enter your key's PIN or touch the key.
The result may show "Success!", but nothing is actually stored on the device.
Disable the Bitwarden extension temporarily during security key registration.
Look for a link like "Use your device or hardware key" during the registration process — this will bypass Bitwarden and allow proper use of your physical key.
Re-enable Bitwarden after the setup is complete.
This issue has been observed on sites like Google and WebAuthn test pages. Disabling the extension during key setup typically resolves the problem.
